Temples of Odisha

The Eastern State of Odisha has a few famous temples built in Kalinga architecture including the famous Puri Jagannath temple, which is one of the 4 Chardham temples, one of the 18 Ashtadasa Sakthi peethas and the capital Bhubaneswar is known as city of temples. 1.  Shree Jagannath Temple, Puri – Dedicated to Lord Jagannath which is one of the manifestation of Lord Vishna, it is one of the 4 Chardham temples from the eastern part of India. It is located in Puri on the shores of Bay of Bengal and around 50 kms from Bhubaneswar.

2. Konark Sun Temple, Konark – Dedicated to the Sun God, it is one of the World UNESCO sites from India and there is no idol or worship being done now but the architecture is one of it’s kind.

3.Lingaraj Temple, Bhubaneshwar– Dedicated to Lord Siva, it is one of the oldest and grand temples in Bhubaneswar with around 100 sub temples spread across the compound.

4. Maa Biraja Devi Temple, Jajpur – Dedicated to Goddess Durga, this temple is one of the 18 Ashtadasa Sakthi peethas and is around 80 kms from Bhubaneshwar.

5. Alarnath Temple, Near Puri – Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, this is around 20 kms from Puri.

6. Shree Lokanath Temple, Near Puri  – Dedicated to Lord Shiva, it is an ancient temple situated near Puri.

7. Sri Ram Mandir, Bhubaneswar – Dedicated to Lord Rama, this was newly constructed and is located in Bhubaneswar.

8. Gundicha Temple, Puri – Dedicated to Aunt of Sri Jagannath it is open only during the Rath Yatra for worship.

9. Mukteswara Siddheswara temple, Bhubaneswar – Dedicated to Lord Siva, this is one of the ancient temples located in Bhubaneswar.

10. Parashurameswar Temple, Bhubaneswar – Dedicated to Lord Siva, this is one of the ancient temples built around 650 CE located in Bhubaneswar.

11. ISKCON temple, Bhubaneswar – Dedicated to Lord Krishna, this is one of the newly constructed temple located in Bhubaneswar.
