Bhojpur Temple
Bhojpur Temple is located around 32 kms to the south of Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh and has a 22ft huge Shiva Linga which is one of the tallest and grandest in the World. It is believed to have been constructed by king Bhojdeva of Paramara dynasty in the 11th century on the right bank of river Betwa. This temple is raised on 106 ft long, 77ft wide and 17 ft high platform. It looks half finished for some unknown reasons.
Four huge pillars around 40 ft high support the huge dome and have beautiful flower carvings. This temple is surrounded by fields and hence no proper places to stay or eat. There are a a few shops outside the temple that sell snacks and cool drinks. Better to plan your stay in Bhopal which is around 30 mins drive from here. The UNESCO World heritage site, Bhimbetka Rocks formation is close to this temple around 25kms and can be planned together.
This temple was covered as part of my Madhya Pradesh Trip
