Rashtrapati Nilayam

Rashtrapati Nilayam(Literally meaning President’s House) is the official retreat of the President of India where the President stays for a few days every year during winter. It is used as Southern Sojourn to conduct official business and is located in Bolarum, Hyderabad. It is open for public viewing for a few days in early January every year.

This Heritage Palace was built by Nizam Nazir-Ud-Dowla in 1860. Bolarum was one of the military cantonments of Nizam Sarkar and the building was the residence of the Chief Military Officer. It was known as Residency House and is part of the premises which is spread across 97 acres. The main building consists of three wings – President’s wing, Family Wing and ADC Wing accommodating 16 rooms including Cinema Hall, State Dining Hall, Morning Room and ADC Dining Room. This building is a Single storied one with roof of 20 to 25 feet height.

The premises comprises of Landscaped gardens, seasonal flowering plants, natural cascading waterfalls, Rock garden, Herbal Garden, etc. It also has fruit orchards of different varieties like Mango, Guava, Pomegranate, Chikkoo, Custard Apple, etc. Fruit Orchards was conceptulised by former President Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam in the year 2008 and spread across 33 acres. Herbal Garden was inaugurated by another former President Smt. Pratibha Patil in the year 2010. Rock Garden and Water Cascade was inaugurated by Shri Ramnath Kovind in 2018.
