Sri Ramalingeswara Swamy Temple, Nandikandi

Sri Ramalingeswara Swamy Temple, Nandikandi, located near Sangareddy around 70 kms from Hyderabad is dedicated to Lord Siva and is an Ancient temple built in 10th/11th century CE by the Kalyana Chalukyas. The main temple is in the Star shape and houses a Siva linga and also a spatika linga(small crystal linga). There is a small idol of turtle in front of the main temple(Garbagriha). The architecture on the pillars is mesmerising. This is declared a protected monument by the Archeological survey of India. There is a dwaja stambham which is also very old and a small pillar which has some inscriptions written on it.

The main entrance or Thoranam has 7 lotus petals shaped pointing downwards and the 6 holes in between them represent the 6 ruthuvus(seasons) and the sun shine falls on the Siva linga directly at the time of sunrise through each of the holes and makes for a great view. It has idols of Nataraja on one side and Gajalakshmi on the other side of the stone on the top.

As per folklore, Aurangazeb’s soldiers came here to destroy the temple and hit on the leg of Nandi idol. There was a huge sound and the soldiers ran away because of that. This is very close to highway NH 65 and close to Sangareddy. There is some car parking available. There is also a Kalyana Mandapam next to the temple, small temples of Parvathi and Ganesha. Also, there is a small temple for Navagrahas.
