Sun Temple, Tirumalagiri
Sun Temple, Tirumalagiri, also called Sri Suryanarayana Swamy Temple is located in the Tirumalagiri area of Secunderabad and is the only Temple in the state of Telangana dedicated to Sun God. It was built by Sri Suryasaran Das Maharaj in the year 1959 and has been gaining popularity with the devotees across the city of Hyderabad. Devotees believe that if they do 108 pradakshinas for 12 weeks around the temple, their wishes will be fulfilled. The Sun God appears in 12 different forms based on the Kalachakram(culture) and hence this number is special.
An idol of Lord Ganesha on the rock at entrance welcomes the devotees with his blessings. It also has smaller temples of Lord Siva(Lingam in the open), Goddess Saraswathi, Naga Devatha and Satyanarayana Swamy. There are seven horses in running pose on top of the temple. Annadanam is organized every Sunday and one can contribute Rs.5000/- for the same. The prasadam is prepared in the temple premises only and outside food is not allowed to be distributed in the temple. There is an Abhishekam every Sunday at 7 am in the morning and they charge Rs.516/- for the same. Makar Sankranthi, the day when sun enters Makar Raasi and Radha Sapthami, which is the birth thithi of Surya Bhagawan are celebrated in a grand way with special poojas and Maha Sowra Homam. The dates for 2025 are 14th January and 4th February.
Temple timings : The temple is open from 7 am to 11 am and from 5 pm to 7 pm every day from Monday to Saturday and from 6.30 am to 12.30 pm and from 5 pm to 7.30 pm on Sundays.
