Temples of Madhya Pradesh
The Central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh is famous for the rich cultural heritage and old/historic temples. Here are the various Temples of Madhya Pradesh. It has two of the 12 Jyotirlinga temples, one of the 18 Mahashakti peethas, etc. You can find information about the temples from other states here.
1. Sri Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple, Ujjain – Dedicated to Lord Siva, it is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga temples which are considered to be sacred for Hindus. It is located in the ancient city of Ujjain and Ujjain corridor was recently renovated by the Government of India.


2. Sri Harsiddhi Mata Sakthipeeth Temple, Ujjain – Dedicated to Goddess Mahakali, it is located very close to the Ujjain Mahakaleshwar temple and is one of the 18 Sakthi peethas.


3. Sri Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga Temple, Omkareshwar – Dedicated to Lord Siva, it is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga temples which are considered to be sacred for Hindus.

4. Kandariya Mahadev Temple, Khajuraho – Dedicated to Lord Siva and part of the Temple complex of Khajuraho. It is one of the architectural marvels.

5. Vamana Temple, Khajuraho – Dedicated to Lord Vamana and part of the Temple complex of Khajuraho

6. Matangeshwar Temple, Khajuraho – Dedicated to Lord Siva, it was built during the Chandela reign in around 900 CE and is a famous temple in the Western group of Khajuraho temples. It has one of the largest Siva lingas in North India.

7. Kal Bhairav Mandir, Ujjain – Dedicated to Kal Bhairav and located in Ujjain. it is cosidered to be the guardian of Ujjain. One of the unique features of this temple is liquor being offered to the deity.
8. Ahilyeshwar Temple, Maheshwar – Dedicated to Lord Siva and situated in the Maheshwar fort complex in Maheshwar on the banks of Narmada river. It was built by the Holkars and displays the splendid Maratha architecture.

9. Chausath Yogini Temple, Bhedaghat – Dedicated to Goddess Durga and 64 yoginis, it is located in Bhedaghat near Jabalpur and was built in 10th century CE. However, the idols are in damaged state because of the attacks from the invaders.

10. Bhojeshwar Mahadev Temple, Bhojpur – Dedicated to Lord Siva and located in Bhojpur near Bhopal, it has one of the biggest Siva linga around 22ft. The temple was left semi finished.
